V. Ortiz Tree Service

Services

Everything we do —in plain English.

We’ll quote any of these on-site. The price you get is the price you pay — no surprise add-ons, no upsells.

  • Tree Pruning

Selective pruning that keeps the tree shaped, structurally sound, and out of the roof — never topped, never butchered.

Crown thinning, deadwood removal, structural pruning on young oaks and pines, and clearance pruning over driveways and roofs. Cuts made at the branch collar, no flush cuts, no topping. We prune in season — never on red oak or live oak between February and June without a sealed cut, because oak wilt is real here.

  • Tree Removal

Whole-tree takedowns when the tree is dead, declining, or hazardous — climbed or bucket-truck, with the lawn left intact.

Removals planned with rigging so heavy limbs don’t hit the fence, the bed, or the lawn. We climb when the tree allows it, run the bucket truck when access is open, and bring a crane on the bigger Magnolia pines and post oaks when it’s the safer call. Cleanup, haul-off, and lawn-protection mats included.

  • Stump Grinding

Grind the stump 6–10" below grade so you can sod over it or plant something new — chip cleanup included.

Stump and surface roots ground out to a depth that lets sod take or a replacement tree go in clean. We backfill with the chips on request or haul them off — your call. Underground utility check before we drop the wheel.

  • Storm & Hazard Cleanup

24-hour response for downed trees, hung-up limbs, split crotches — we work with your insurance adjuster on the documentation.

When a Gulf storm or a derecho rolls through Montgomery County, we’re on call. Wires-clear-of-tree confirmation, photo documentation for the claim, careful sectional removal of anything resting on the house. Tarp-and-secure first, full removal after.

  • Crown Reduction & Cleaning

Pull weight off long lateral limbs, clean out dead and crossing wood — without topping or lion-tailing.

Crown reduction by reduction cuts back to lateral branches at least one-third the diameter of the cut — proper ANSI A300 technique. Crown cleaning removes dead, dying, diseased, weakly attached, and low-vigor branches. Done right, the tree looks like nothing happened from twenty feet away — and it stops dropping limbs in storms.

  • Cabling & Bracing

Steel cables and rod bracing for trees with co-dominant stems or included bark — keeps the tree standing instead of splitting in half.

Live oaks and post oaks in Montgomery County love to grow co-dominant trunks with included bark — beautiful, but a single thunderstorm away from splitting. We install dynamic cable systems and threaded rods at the right height to redistribute load before failure, not after.

  • Crane-Assisted Removal

For the giants — 80-foot pines, decayed oaks over the house, anything too dangerous to climb. Crane-pick, no lawn damage.

When the tree is over the roof, hollow at the base, or just bigger than rigging can safely handle, we contract a crane. Each section is picked from above and set down in the street, not dropped through the canopy. Slower, safer, and cheaper than insurance claims on a wrecked roof.

  • Lot & Land Clearing

Selective clearing on Magnolia and Pinehurst acreage — keep the legacy trees, take out the underbrush and the leaners.

For homesites, building pads, and pasture cleanup. We mark the trees worth keeping (your old loblollies, the post oak with the canopy you can’t replace), remove the rest, grind stumps, and leave you a clean grade. Burn permits handled where the county allows.

Most homes around Magnolia have three to ten trees worth a look. We can quote them all in one visit and stage the work over a season — usually saves on the trip charge.
